As you may have noticed, a seed has no leaves.

Explanation:

These leaves, that contain chlorophyl, are necessary for photosynthesis. So every seed comes with a starter package of nutrients in order to be able to build these first leaves, a stem, and roots. After that it can take care of itself, apart from minerals and water that it takes from the soil.
