Explanation:

A proton has a charge of #+1# and can therefore cancel out the charge of #e^-#.

An antiproton is identical to a proton except it has an opposite charge, and so would have a charge of #-1#, to cancel this charge we need a charge of #+1#, which we can only get from a positiron/antielectron, which is represented as #e^+#
