If the gravitational forces of the sun on the planets suddenly disappeared, in what kind of paths would the planets move?

The planets would shoot off in straight lines going out into space. The Sun's gravity is what makes them follow curved orbits.

Explanation:

The Sun's gravity pull will never really disappear, but gravity from other bodies might overcome it. The competing body does not have to be as madsive as the Sun if it comes close enough. And it may have actually happened in our own Solar system. See here:
