Their difference is #=2#

Explanation:

Let the inductors be #L_1# and #L_2#

When the are in series

#L_1+L_2=10#

When they are in parallel

#1/L_1+1/L_2=1/2.4#

Therefore,

#(L_1+L_2)/(L_1L_2)=1/2.4#

#L_1L_2=2.4*10=24#

#(L_1+L_2)^2-4L_1L_2=100-4*24=4#

#L_1^2+L_2^2-2L_1L_2=4#

#(L_1-L_2)^2=4#

#L_1-L_2=sqrt(4)=2#
