If you were standing at the equator where would you expect Polaris to be?

Roughly on the horizon.

Explanation:

Assuming Polaris is directly above the north pole (it isn’t quite, but should be ok for this question) then as you travel south towards the equator the star will appear to sink towards the northern horizon.

At the equator (#90^@# from the pole) the star will lie on the northern horizon and will only be momentarily visible (if at all.)
