2nd Battle of El Alamein, in Egypt.

Explanation:

After a serious defeat at the Gazala position, in Libya, the British were forced far back to El Alamein in Egypt which had the Qattara depression, a large impassible area, to protect the British left flank.

Rommel attacked but was unable to break through. Rommel's supply line was long.

There was a shake up at the British command level after the recent defeats and Montgomery became the British commander. He waited until his army was strong enough to break the German line. The German retreated all the way back to Tunisia and the American landed in Western North Africa and boxed the Germans in from the West. Initiative passed to the Allies.
