Is color change evidence that a chemical or physical change may have occurred?

Set up two smaller test tubes with about 2 mL of cyclohexane in each.
2. Add a few crystals of iodine from the reagent bottle to the first test tube, and swirl until dissolved.
3. Scrape the crystals from the bottom of the evaporating dish onto a watch glass.
4. Transfer a few crystals into the second test tube containing cyclohexane, and again swirl until dissolved

Colour change is usually a giveaway for the occurrence of chemical change....

Explanation:

And yet here, you do observe the colour of the cyclohexane change to purple.... But with respect to the iodine crystal, the colour does not change....

As always, chemical change is characterized by the formation of new substances, and the making and breaking of strong chemical bonds.....
