# Is y=5/x an inverse variation?

$y = \frac{5}{x}$

Here color(red) (y ,x are variables and color(blue)(5 is the constant

Let us assume values for color(red)(x and observe how the values of $x \mathmr{and} y$ vary with respect to each other:

• $\textcolor{red}{x = 1} , y = \frac{\textcolor{b l u e}{5}}{1} = 5$
• $\textcolor{red}{x = 5} , y = \frac{\textcolor{b l u e}{5}}{5} = 1$
• $\textcolor{red}{x = 15} , y = \frac{\textcolor{b l u e}{5}}{15} = \frac{1}{3}$

It can be observed that as color(red)(x increases in value , color(red)(y decreases and hence the variation inverse.

• If one variable increases the other decreases.
• If one decreases the other increases.
