One day the temperature started at -6°F and dropped 16° by the end of the day. What was the temperature at the end of the day?

See a solution process below:

Saying the temperature dropped #16^o# means it went down by #16^o#.

Therefore we need to subtract #16^o# from the starting point which was #-6^o#.

#-6^o - 16^o = -22^o#

The temperature at the end of the day was a cold #-22^o#

The temperature starts off at -6°F.

By the end of the day, it dropped by 16°F. This means you have to add the dropped temperature to find the 'end of the day' temperature. By dropping 16°F, we can say that we have to add -16°F to the original temperature.

-6°F + (-16°F) = -22°F
