Explanation:

In general, it is easy to see that the angle of incidence for the incoming horizontal ray is #90^circ-theta#, which is also the value of the angle of reflection. So, the angle between the incident and reflected rays is #2times (90^circ -theta) = 180^circ-2 theta#.

The angle #phi# is thus easily seen to be

#180^circ-(180^circ-2theta) = 2 theta#
