Suppose that a sled is accelerating at a rate of 2 m/s2. If the net force is tripled and the mass is divided by 2, then what is the new acceleration of the sled?

Recall that #F = ma#.

Solving for #a# we get that

#a = F/m#

So

#2 = F/m#

Now we want to see the value of #a# produced with #3F# and #m/2#.

Thus

#a = F/m#

#a = (3F)/(m/2)#

#a = (6F)/m#

#1/6a = F/m#

Since we know from above that #F/m = 2#, therefore

#1/6a = 2#

#a = 12#

Therefore, the new acceleration is #12# m/#s^2#.

Hopefully this helps!
