# Suppose y varies inversely with x, how do you write an equation for the inverse variation if y = -2 when x = 1.2?

Inverse variation can be represented as:
$y = \frac{k}{x}$

$k = y . x$

where color(green)(k is the constant

$x = 1.2 \mathmr{and} y = - 2$

so ,
$\textcolor{g r e e n}{k} = 1.2 \times \left(- 2\right) = - 2.4$

Now as we have the value of $\textcolor{g r e e n}{k}$ , the variation can be represented as.
$y = - \frac{2.4}{x}$
$y . x = - 2.4$
