In Namibia in South West Africa.

Explanation:

The battle (or perhaps better, the skirmish) was fought between British/South African troops and German troops mainly composed by natives and led by German officers.

The location represents a strategic position but also contains water wells very valuable in this arid part of the World.
The impression is that the battle was fought more for the water than for National or Patriotic reasons.

As it is possible to see from the map the German troops surrounded the British positioned at the wells taking position on the surrounding high ground.

At the end of a day fight a white flag signaled the surrender of the encircled British troops and also a run to the wells by the soldiers of both sides to drink water!

The losses were 14 Germans and 16 British soldiers dead (and around 100 wounded).
