Let the number be $x$. Then its square is ${x}^{2}$.

${x}^{2} + x = 132$

${x}^{2} + x - 132 = 0$

$\left(x + 12\right) \left(x - 11\right) = 0$

$x = - 12 \mathmr{and} 11$

$\therefore$The number is either $- 12$ or $11$.
