The capital city of Tenochitla'n flourished 1325 A.D to 1521. The city was built on an island on lake Texcoco , in the valley of Mexico. this had system of canals and waterways that supplied the many people who lived there.

The Aztecs adapted to this environment by creating causeways, canals, aqueducts, floating gardens. A causeway is raised road that allowed many people to travel over swampy and wet areas. Bridges was built into the causeways that allowed small boats and canoes to travel under them. Canals was used like water roads to allow people easily around the large city.
