# Three times the greatest of three consecutive even integers exceeds twice the least by 38. How do you find the integers?

Apr 6, 2016

Three integers are $26$, $28$ and $30$

#### Explanation:

Let the even integers be $x$, $x + 2$ and $x + 4$.

As thrice the greatest $x + 4$ exceeds twice the least $x$ by $38$

$3 \left(x + 4\right) - 2 x = 38$ or

$3 x + 12 - 2 x = 38$ or $3 x - 2 x = 38 - 12$

$x = 26$

Hence three integers are $26$, $28$ and $30$.
