Let $1$ represent all of the students. You can solve this by creating a common denominator for all fractions:

$1 - \frac{2}{5} - \frac{1}{3}$
$\frac{15}{15} - \frac{6}{15} - \frac{5}{15}$
$\frac{15 - 6 - 5}{15}$
$\frac{4}{15}$

$\frac{4}{15}$ of the students come in cars.
