It showed that the United States, or the 13 Colonies, recognized themselves and demanded to be requested as an independent nation.

Explanation:

The declaration listed arguments and reasons as to why they want to be freed from British rule. Equally as important, it contains ideals of the new nation. The document inspired peoples under rule in countries and regions elsewhere to bravely fight for their freedom and independence. The Americans set an example.
