Explanation:

A rectangle:

  • is equiangular: All the internal angles are the same.

  • has opposite sides are parallel and of the same length, so it is a parallelogram.

  • has rotational symmetry of order #2# about its centre or #4# if it is also a square (i.e. equilateral).

  • has reflective symmetry about each of two axes, running the the midpoint of opposite sides. If also a square, then it has an additional pair of axes of reflective symmetry running through opposite corners.

  • has symmetry group #D_2#, unless it is also a square, in which case it has symmetry group #D_4#.

  • has area given by the product of the lengths of any two adjacent sides.

  • can form a bi-periodic tessellation of the plane.
