The hard crystalline nature of some metamorphic rocks make them candidates for decorative building stone. A few other uses include:

  • Marble has been used for centuries as a decorative building stone and used by sculptors to carve statues..
  • Although not used much any more, slate was used for blackboards.for classrooms.
  • Metamorphic rocks are also a source of garnets which can be used as an abrasive or when in some cases as gems for jewelry.
  • The mineral talc is a metamorphic mineral. It is the softest mineral and has been used to make talcum powder.
