The Mugal-Maratha Wars destroyed much of India and bankrupted the Mughals. Ayrangzeb spent the last 26 years of his life fruitlessly try to destroy the Hindus.

Explanation:

When Aurangzeb succeeded his father Shah Jahan the Mughal Empire was at its peak. Aurangzeb dealt with his 2 older brothers to take over. He was a devote Muslim. He reversed the tolerance of Hindus that had existed before.

Aurangzeb destroyed a number of significant Hindi temples and entered into an endless war that never quite succeeded in destroying his enemies. The War cost 100,000 men and 300,000 of various pack animals per year for 26 years.

The Mughals could not sustain the territory after Aurangzeb's death and it shrank considerably.
