Dams stop the flow of river and stores huge amount of water in a vast area..THis will require lot of land.People living in this land needs settlement..When the natural flow of river is stopped many living things fishes and aquatic living things will loose its habitat Many trees are to be cut down/.Many rare plants will be lost for ever. A large reservoir will make a heavy load and may cause Earth quakes. Lot of mosquitoes will bred in the reservoir making health problems..
