What are the intercepts of 2y-8x=5?

Jan 6, 2016

$x = - \left(\frac{5}{8}\right)$

$y = \frac{5}{2}$

Explanation:

2y - 8x = 5 is a linear equation ie. a straight line.

when the line crosses the x-axis the y- coordinate will be zero

by substituting y = 0 into the equation we will find the corresponding x- coordinate.

y = 0 : - 8x = 5

$\Rightarrow x = - \left(\frac{5}{8}\right)$

In the same way when the line crosses the y-axis the x-coordinate will be zero

now substitute x = 0 into the equation.

x = 0 : 2y = 5

$\Rightarrow y = \frac{5}{2}$
