What are ways water is lost from the body?

There are several ways we lose water

Explanation:

  1. Sweating: in a hot environment we try to keep our body temperature constant by evaporating water
  2. Urinating: our kidneys have to dilute some body waste with water to make it past our bladder and urethra
  3. Defecation: our faeces still contains water, or it wouldn't pass our bowels. Mind you, most of the water in your intestine is retrieved, but some of it must pass out.
  4. Breathing: In a dry atmosphere the air has to be moistened, or oxygen transfer will not work. Most of this moisture is breathed out (see the 'clouds' from your mouth on a cold day).
