the two battles that signified the turning point of the Civil War were the battles of Vicksburg and Gettysburg.

Explanation:

These two battles happened within days of each other July 4 1863.
The Confederacy had touted itself as the second American Revolution. Losing these battles on the anniversary of the declaration of independence, was demoralizing for the south. The Town of Vicksburg refused to celebrate the fourth of July for 81 years

The Battle of Vicksburg ended Confederate control of the Mississippi River. After the siege forced the surrender of the fortress of Vicksburg the south could no longer receive supplies and reinforcements from outside the south. Arms ammunition, from Mexico, fresh troops from Texas and Arkansas could no longer reach the south. Without supplies from outside the Confederacy could not maintain its armies.

The Battle of Gettysburg ended any hope of a military victory for the south. A victory at Gettysburg could have threaten Washington and forced the union to negotiate a peace deal granting independence to the south. The defeat crippled the army of Northern Virginia where another invasion of the north was impossible.

The battle of Gettysburg ending July 3, 1863 and the surrender of Vicksburg July 4 1863 marked the end of hope for victory for the south in the Civil War. These were turning points in the Civil War.
