antibiotics can only treat bacterial infections.

antibiotics have no effect in viral infections like colds and flu or fungal infections like athletes foot.

Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections.

There are two primary types of organisms that can cause infection: Viruses and Bacteria. Virus caused illnesses, especially in the nose and throat, are more common than illnesses by bacteria.

Antibiotics are very strong medicines used to treat bacterial infections, not viral infections. Antibiotics cannot kill viruses, the best treatment would be to let the viral infection go away by itself.

Some illnesses that are caused by bacteria are urinary tract infections, strep throat, and some pneumonia.
