thermohaline circulation near the arctic zones

Explanation:

Winds push the sea water towards the arctic. The water evaporates underway and it also cools down as it heads away from the equator. The evaporation causes the salt concentration of the water to increase, which makes the water more dense. This colder, denser water then sinks down around the arctic. when it reaches the bottom it flows towards the equator as the water at the equator rises up (the water is warmer and as such less dense)
