The term loyalist infers those colonist who were loyal to the crown. At the time of the Boston Tea Party, December 16, 1773, everyone was a loyalist. Only a very few people at that time were looking to break free from England.

Most, if not all, those who led America after its declaration of independence, did not in 1773 want anything more than to be proper recognized by the King and Parliament. They wanted to be treated fairly and they very much wanted to removal of the British army from American soil. But at that moment in time, few were looking for a fight with England.
