Philosophy is the study using human reason of what is real or should be real. Philosophy then is used to create a world view,
Voltaire, Kant, were philosophers who were part of the Enlightenment. The French Enlightenment in particular created a world view that was strictly naturalistic. Everything had to be explained as a result of natural cause that could be understood by human reason.
Karl Marx was a philosopher who created the theory of communism. This was a world view of how economics and human history had and would progress, towards a classless society.
A philosopher is then someone who creates , studies, or advocates for a world view that describes what human reason has determined reality to be. ( As human reason is faulty the correspondence between the conclusions of a philosopher and reality may also be faulty.)
