Canada was extensively covered by Glaciers in the Ice Ages which greatly affected the geography of country.

Explanation:

Canada was almost completely covered by 3 to 4 kilometer thick ice during the last Ice Age. This great weight, with its expansion and melting, created the geological face of the country that we see today. The fertile area of the Great Plains was created by accumulated sediments as the ice receded. Great river valleys were carved into the mountainous areas. Mountains were extensively eroded. Left over water and still melting glaciers created the extensive lakes and rivers.
