The Wounded Knee Massacre

Explanation:

The U.S. 7th Calvary Regiment had escorted a group of American Indians 5 miles to Wounded Knee Creek where they set up camp. The next day, as they were disarming the Indians, a misunderstanding occurred that may have included a rifle being fired. Upon hearing this, the American soldiers opened fire, slaughtering over 150 men, women, and children and injuring 51 more(many of whom died later). American casualties included 25 dead and 39 wounded(6 of whom died later).

Fun Fact: 20 soldiers were awarded the Medal of Honor by Congress for their participation in this massacre.
