The thing to remember about groups is that they designate the columns of the Periodic Table of Elements.

This means that in order to find an element's group, all you have to do is look for the chemical symbol of that element and check the number of the column in which it is located.

In your case, oxygen, #"O"#, is located in group 16 of the Period Table.


A cool thing to notice here is that because oxygen sits at the top of the group, i.e. in period 2, group 16 is also known as the oxygen family.
