What happened at the Alamo?
The Battle of the Alamo was a 13-day siege in which Texans who wanted independence defended the Alamo from the Mexican army, but eventually lost due to the small number of people.
Texas wanted independence from Mexico. When the Mexican army, led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, attacked, the Texan defenders were overwhelmed. Many people lost their lives.
Although it was a loss for Texas, the people saw the battle as a symbol of endurance and heroic resistance.
