# What happens to oxygen gas in the air during burning?

It is chemically transformed to give $C {O}_{2}$ or some other oxide......
$C {H}_{4} \left(g\right) + 2 {O}_{2} \left(g\right) \rightarrow C {O}_{2} \left(g\right) + 2 {H}_{2} O \left(l\right) + \Delta$
The dioxygen molecule, ${\stackrel{0}{O}}_{2}$, is REDUCED to give $\stackrel{- I I}{O}$; and carbon has been oxidized from $\stackrel{- I V}{C}$, is OXIDIZED to give $\stackrel{+ I V}{C}$.
