What has been the effect of the post-Mao leadership under Deng Xiaoping in China?
Deng Xiaoping opened his country to world economy which unleashed an unprecedented economic growth;
When Mao died, most of Chinese people lived in poverty. The collectivist policies led during the Great Leap and the Cultural Revolution had not succeeded in bringing economic relief to the destitute masses.
In 1979 Deng Xiaoping put an end to the closedness of hiscountry by accepting foreign investments and to a certain extent capitalism. This is how the country became the economic dragon we know today. Extreme poverty has been almost divided by ten in the last forty years thanks to that reform.
