This is a division of fractions, but before we can do the division, the fractions in the numerator have to be added.

It can also be written out as:

#(3/40+1/8) ÷1/8#

Note that brackets must be put in, because without them the calculation reads as#3/40+1/8 ÷1/8#.

To add fractions - find a common denominator and make equivalent fractions.

#(3/40+1/8) ÷1/8 = (3+5)/40 ÷1/8#

=# 8/40 xx 8/1#
