Elaboration: the addition of more detail concerning what has already been said.


Basically, the way you could say this to a kid is like you are explaining more thoroughly. Like if the kid told his teacher the reason why he wasn't here the previous day, and he proceeded to explain all of the details. For example: "I went to the doctor yesterday." (Elaboration) "I got a shot, it really hurt. Then the doctor gave me a Band-Aid, and it was Mickey Mouse...) then he is elaborating what had happened. He is further explaining it.
