Laterite is a soft clay-like rock in nature that is formed from the erosion of other types of rocks in the vicinity, over long periods of time.

Explanation:

The name laterite is derived from the Latin brick so it is a term that describes a type of rock, rather than that guy who never shows up on time for anything.

Laterite may appear reddish, or brown, changing to blackish-brown when it hardens after exposure to the atmosphere. It is rich in minerals like iron and nickel.
