A redox reaction...?

Explanation:

In chemistry, a redox reaction is when electrons are exchanged between the atoms and the atoms change their oxidation states. Redox reactions can also involve oxygen.

An example of a redox reaction is the displacement of metals according to their position on the reactivity series. Zinc is more reactive than copper in the series, and will displace it from the compound.

Reaction:

#Zn(s)+CuSO_4(aq)->ZnSO_4(aq)+Cu(s)#

Zinc is oxidized and loses #2# electrons:

#Zn-2e^(-)->Zn^(2+)#

Copper is reduced and gains #2# electrons:

#Cu^(2+)+2e^(-)->Cu#

Combining, we get:

#Zn-color(red)cancelcolor(black)(2e^-)+Cu^(2+)+color(red)cancelcolor(black)(2e^-)->Zn^(2+)+Cu#

As you can see here, that is the net ionic reaction.
