Explanation:

It's a figure of speech used when a comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind has to be made. It's a phrase generally beginning with "like/as"
e.g. as brave as a lion.

p.s. not to be confused with a metaphor, which is again comparison w/o using the words "like/as".
e.g. he is a lion
