A stamen is a long thin plant structure made up of the filament and the anther, the male parts of a flower.

In many flowering plants you have male and female parts growing together. The filament holds up the anthers and these are both part of the male parts of the flower.
The anthers are where the pollen develops and this pollen will be released when mature. When pollen finds its way to the female parts of a flower, landing on the sticky stigma, it will start to grow a pollen tube to grow down the long style of the female part of the flower.
The tube will allow the pollen to send its genetic information to the ovary where there are ovules. An ovule is fertilized and this will later become a seed.
