Explanation:
In Algae and Fungi, the haploid gametes fuse to form a diploid zygote. It does not germinate immediately to produce sporophyte. It secretes a thick wall around to become a resting spore called zygospore.
It undergoes a rest period under unfavourable conditions. On the approach of favorable conditions, it germinates to produce a diploid sporophyte if the organism shows alternation of generations.
The diploid nucleus in a zygospore undergoes meiosis to produce haploid meiospores in plants in which there is no alternation of generations. Meiospores germinate to produce haploid plants.
