A protrusion of the intestines into the inguinal canal.

Explanation:

A hernia is when an organ extrudes through an opening or a weakened spot in the muscle or tissue holding it in place.

There are different types of hernia of which the commonest, especially among men, is the inguinal hernia.

The inguinal hernia occurs when the intestines protrude through a weak spot or a tear in the abdominal wall, often through the inguinal canal.

The inguinal canal is in the groin region and, for men, is the passage through which the spermatic cord descends into the scrotum. In women, the inguinal canal holds a ligament that helps secure the uterus.
