The dipole moment is the product of electric charge (q) and the distance between the positive and negative center (r) .

Dipole moment is a vector quantity which has charge as well as direction. It's direction is from electropositive ends to electronegative end.
The unit of dipole moment is Debye(D) .
For example in hypothetical molecule A+___B-, a unit positive charge is separated from negative charge by a distance of 100pm. The dipole moment is calculated by multiplying distance 100pm by charge.
