What is Domain Archaea?

Domain Archaea is mostly composed of cells that live in extreme environments.


Species of the domain archaea:

  • are not inhibited by antibiotics
  • live in extreme environments to avoid competition with other organisms
  • lack peptidoglycan in their cell wall
  • are relatives of bacteria

There are three main groups of archaea.

  • Methanogens
  • Hyperthermophiles
  • Extreme Halophiles
