Protein purification or separation is a series of processes intended to isolate one or few proteins from a complex mixture.

Explanation:

Protein purification is essential for the characterisation of the function , structure and interaction of the protein of interest.

Proteins can be separated according to solubility, size , charge and binding affinity.

Protein separation may be accomplished by :
1) ultra centrifugation
2) size exclusion chromatography
3) hydrophobic interaction chromatography
4) ion exchange chromatography
5) affinity chromatography
6) high performance liquid chromatography ( HPLC)
