The net charge of the particle or atom would be 2+


I assume when you say particle, you mean atom because particles when referring to chemistry usually mean the electrons, protons, and the neutrons of an atom. Each proton has a charge or 1+, each electron has a charge of 1-, and neutrons don't have a charge. Since there are 12 protons, the cumulative proton charge would be 12+. The ten electrons make up a 10- charge. Add them together to get the net charge: +12 + (-10)= 2+
