# What is the correct way to write the expression for: forty-two less than y?

$42 < y$

This is correct, translating words directly into symbols, however generally I tend to see variables on the left-hand side of equations:

$y > 42$

Translated directly, this says "y is greater than forty-two", which is ostensibly the same thing.
