Proteins that respond to events inside the cell are called internal regulators.

Explanation:

Internal regulators are special proteins that permit the cell cycle to continue only when certain conditions have been met inside the cell. For example mitosis can't proceed unless the DNA has been copied. Thus it allows the cell cycle to proceed only when certain processes have happened inside the cell.

The importance of internal regulators are to make sure that there aren't any mistakes in the cell.
E.g. cyclins. Cyclins are rhythmic fluctuations in the activity of the cell cycle, which controls molecules pace the events of the cell cycle.
