What is the function of the cardiac aorta? Is it a vein or artery?
The aorta is the largest artery in the body.
The function of aorta is to supply blood to the various parts of the body. It is divided into following parts:
1) the ascending aorta- coronary arteries branch off the ascending aorta to supply the heart with blood.
2) the aortic arch- it brings blood to the head, neck and arms.
3) the descending thoracic aorta- this supplies blood to the ribs and some chest structures.
4) abdominal aorta- most of the major organs receive blood from branches of the abdominal aorta.
