The aorta is the largest artery in the body.
Explanation:
The function of aorta is to supply blood to the various parts of the body. It is divided into following parts:
1) the ascending aorta- coronary arteries branch off the ascending aorta to supply the heart with blood.
2) the aortic arch- it brings blood to the head, neck and arms.
3) the descending thoracic aorta- this supplies blood to the ribs and some chest structures.
4) abdominal aorta- most of the major organs receive blood from branches of the abdominal aorta.
